Find the moon.

β€œIt is like a finger pointing away to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory."

I think about it constantly in operations work. The finger is the metric, the dashboard, the launch, the thing someone asked you to build. The moon is the outcome the business actually needs. The two are not the same. Most teams I meet are already building the finger before anyone has named the moon.

Most of the work I do is finding the moon first, then building toward it.
